The White House announced today that it is nominating Dr. Michael Wooten to lead the Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFPP), within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), as the agency’s Administrator.

Wooten would bring a long resume to the position. Currently a senior advisor for acquisitions at the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid office, Wooten previously served as deputy assistant secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education under the Education Department and as the deputy chief procurement officer for the District of Columbia.

A veteran, Wooten served as a Marine Corps officer for 16 years. Wooten also spent 10 years at Defense Acquisition University, where he “researched acquisition issues and routinely briefed flag officers to include the Inspector General of the Army and the Navy’s Program Executive Officer for Enterprise Information Systems,” according to his LinkedIn page.

Wooten would replace acting Administrator Lesley Field, who has served in the role since October 2016. Wooten’s nomination will go before the Senate for approval.
