Renata Spinks has been elevated to acting CISO at the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), taking over the position in January 2021.

According to Spinks’ LinkedIn, she is currently acting CISO, but still serving as the cyber technology officer for USMC Forces Cyberspace Command – a role she has served in since August 2018.

Prior to joining USMC’s cyber apparatus, Spinks sharpened her cyber skills with the U.S. Treasury as the special assistant to the director of IT in the Office of Financial Research and as senior advisor for the assistant CIO at the IRS.

Currently, USMC is guiding its workforce through a shift to zero trust security. Speaking at a virtual event in Oct. 2020, Spinks said that “the evolution of zero trust is going to be what keeps us most busy and keeps us continuing the emphasis of partnering with industry and each other.”
