On Saturday, President Trump announced via tweet that Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley will be nominated to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, following Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford’s retirement. According to a Defense Department release, Gen. Dunford will be retiring in September 2019, after holding the position since September 2015. In a series of tweets, the president tweeted “I am thankful to both of these incredible men for their service to our Country! Date of transition to be determined.”
