The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will in the coming weeks release a new regulation that will allow the Federal government to directly hire cybersecurity personnel, significantly slimming a lengthy hiring process that has bogged down the Federal government. The announcement of the new policy comes from Basil Parker, senior advisor for Government-wide IT and Cyber Workforce Development at OPM, who spoke today at a Dell Technologies Summit. Parker noted that the average time-to-hire in the Federal government is 106 days, and indicated that the new regulation is aimed at cutting the bureaucratic vetting process that may prevent the government from securing coveted cyber talent.
