The U.S. Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR) has appointed Vice Admiral Kelly Aeschbach as its new commander under the U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF), within the Department of Defense.

NAVIFOR is in charge of generating the Navy’s information warfare workforce to ensure the Navy can meet its mission. As commander, Aeschbach will oversee NAVIFOR’s use of “information-based capabilities (communications, networks, intelligence, meteorology, oceanography, cryptology, electronic warfare, cyberspace operations, and space) to degrade, deny, deceive or destroy the enemy’s warfighting capabilities, or to enhance the effectiveness of friendly operations across all domains,” according to its website.

Previously, Aeschbach served as commander at the Office of Naval Intelligence from 2019 to 2021. She has also served as the director of the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office, director of intelligence at the U.S. Strategic Command, in Omaha, Neb., and as deputy director of intelligence at Headquarters, Resolute Support, Afghanistan.

From 2013 to 2015, she served as commanding officer for Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic in Norfolk, Va.
