The Department of Defense (DoD) has named Danielle Metz to head its newly established Information Management and Technology (IM&T) Directorate.

Metz has been DoD’s Deputy CIO for Information Enterprise since early 2021.

As the IM&T director, Metz will support the new director of Administration and Management (DA&M) Michael B. Donley – and lead the strategic modernization of the information enterprise for the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) components.

Donley, now the senior official responsible for information management and technology and the chief information officer for the OSD, established the new directorate and selected Metz for the role.

These new organization, DoD said, is part of an effort by Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks to modernize how business is conducted across the department including in the IT realm, with the aim of improving business processes within the OSD and across the department.

“Recent cost-driven IT consolidation efforts, coupled with increased demand due to remote work environments and rapid advancements in technology, have highlighted the need for strengthened oversight of OSD IT resources,” Hicks wrote in a recent memorandum.

The new directorate’s initial focus, according to the DoD’s announcement, will be on establishing a framework for the integration of IT activities across the OSD components. IM&T will also develop an OSD IT resource requirements baseline and create a standardized memorandum of agreement between OSD and the Joint Service Provider for shared service support.
