Vision-Box Unveils Facial Recognition Tech

Vision-Box launched a new facial recognition technology for the Border Patrol at the AFCEA Homeland Security Conference on Sept. 13. The Seamless Totem features new face detection capabilities that can be used during airport check-in, through border control, to boarding, and at land borders or seaports. Vision-Box said that the new technology would enable more secure borders and the integrity of identity.

CenturyLink Plans to Acquire Level 3 by October

CenturyLink announced that it is updating the time frame of its acquisition of Level 3 Communications to be completed in mid- to late October 2017. “Since we began the regulatory approval process, 24 states and territories have approved or cleared CenturyLink’s acquisition of Level 3 and recognize this transaction is clearly in the public interest and will be good for competition in the enterprise market,” said Glen F. Post III, CenturyLink CEO and president. “We are working to obtain the remaining approvals, including the State of California, the Department of Justice, and the Federal Communications Commission, and want to give the regulators time to complete their review process.”

Cloudera Acquires Fast Forward Labs

Cloudera announced that it has acquired Fast Forward Labs, an applied research and advisory services company specializing in machine learning and applied artificial intelligence. “Now known as Cloudera Fast Forward Labs, the team will concentrate on practical research into new approaches to data science and applying research to business problems that are broadly applicable to a variety of industries and applications,” said Cloudera CEO Tom Reilly. “Cloudera will benefit from those insights directly, and we’re excited to bring even more incredible talent to the company.”
