The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Sept. 28 voted to approve legislation that would authorize the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to undertake and fund a new initiative to provide industrial control systems (ICS) security training.
The measure – H.R.7777, Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity Training Act – was approved by the committee on a voice vote.
The legislation would direct CISA to create and provide ICS security training at no cost through virtual and in-person methods. The training would include instruction at the beginner level, and on cybersecurity issues unique to ICS.
The bill also instructs also CISA to collaborate with Department of Energy (DoE) National Laboratories, and to consult with sector risk management agencies.
The bill approved by the Senate committee this week passed the House in June.
