Mitchel Herckis has been named to the permanent role of Director of Federal Cybersecurity at the Office of Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) Clare Martorana, within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Herckis confirmed the permanent appointment in a LinkedIn posting. He has been performing in the position in an acting capacity for the past ten months.

“A year ago, I took a big leap in moving (back) from NYC to DC for a job working with our Federal CIO Clare Martorana and Federal CISO Chris DeRusha,” Herckis said. “It’s been a wild ride, but driving forward our implementation of the Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity has been a once in a lifetime opportunity.” “I’m grateful to continue working with this team, driving security outcomes across the federal government as Director for Federal Cybersecurity,” said Herckis.

Prior to taking the position at OMB, Herckis had been working at Google on state and local government affairs and public policy issues. Herckis also was a senior advisor for the New York City Cyber Command.
