The General Services Administration (GSA) said that Krystal Brumfield will be stepping down as the agency’s associate administrator for government-wide policy – a position she took up on the first day of the Biden administration in 2021 – effective on May 4.
The agency said in an April 22 announcement that Mehul Parekh, who is principal deputy associate administrator at the Office of Government-wide Policy, will become acting associate administrator.
GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan offered strong praise for Brumfield’s efforts in the Office of Government-wide Policy, whose responsibilities include providing policy, guidance, and best practices in Federal property, technology, mission support operations, and sustainable solutions.
“Under Krystal’s capable and inclusive leadership, GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy has taken huge strides in reducing barriers for small businesses, using the government’s buying power to fuel clean manufacturing and innovation, and creating more accessible and equitable pathways into federal service,” Carnahan said. “We are deeply grateful for her service to GSA and the American people and wish her all the best in the future.”
Accomplishments during Brumfield’s tenure include actions to promote sustainability, equity, and community engagement in decisions on where Federal facilities are located, modernizing the management of Federal advisory committees, expanding opportunities for small businesses, and launching GSA’s Acquisition Policy Federal Advisory Committee and its Acquisition Talent Development program.
Also on April 21, GSA announced the appointment of Christine Simpson as senior advisor to the deputy administrator. She is a former chief operating officer at Analytics Media Group.
The agency also said that Kusai Merchant, GSA’s deputy associate administrator for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, has been named to the new role of senior advisor to the Federal Acquisition Service.
Finally, GSA said that Jetta Wong, who has been a senior advisor to the administrator for climate, will move to the new role of deputy chief of staff for policy.
