Jason Matheny, former head of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA), has been given three new technology and national security roles in President Biden’s White House.

Matheny will serve as deputy assistant to the president for technology and national security, deputy director for national security at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), and coordinator for technology and national security at the White House National Security Council.

Previously, Matheny served as the founding director at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) at Georgetown University, who first announced Matheny’s new appointments.

According to CSET, Matheny served “on various White House committees related to artificial intelligence, biosecurity, high-performance computing, and quantum information science. He co-led the National AI R&D Strategic Plan released by the White House in 2016 and was a member of the White House Select Committee on AI, created in 2018.”
