The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) BI is looking to map its IT architecture as it implements Technology Business Management (TBM), and is investigating if industry can meet the bureau’s needs. The FBI issued a request for information for a commercial tool on July 23, with responses due by August 20.

In the RFI, the FBI notes the motivating factors of TBM, checking for compliance with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) frameworks, and the Federal Integrated Business Framework.

“The architecture modeling tool and/or module will be leveraged by architects, systems engineers, and analysts. The intent will be to create and easily view baseline architectures, reference architectures, and target architectures,” the RFI states.

The FBI is looking for tools in both the architecture modeling and portfolio management areas. On architecture, the RFI notes it is aimed at use by architects, systems engineers, and analysts to “derive relationships within the models and render them on screen and in reports.” On portfolio management, the FBI is looking for a tool aimed at project managers and financial analysts.

“The architecture models will be able to describe processes, data and information flow, system and service functions, and their relationships to capabilities and missions. The portfolio management feature / functionality will enable the mapping of systems to TBM aligned capabilities and associated financials,” the RFI states.
