The Department of Defense (DoD) is looking for public comments on how the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) can continually work on adopting and integrating AI technology into its systems, according to a notice published to the Federal Register.
The May 22 notice is looking for written responses – up until July 22 – that will help the DoD to develop policies and initiatives that will enhance its AI capabilities within the DIB.
“The Department seeks comments from the public to… help the DoD understand the resources needed by the DIB for ongoing integration of AI into defense systems and… help Office of Policy, Analysis, and Transition (PA&T) to develop a Trusted AI Defense Industrial Base Roadmap, which will outline short-, mid-, and long-term DIB considerations for AI-enabled defense systems,” the notice says.
The Defense Department is looking for insight into key areas such as supply chain resilience, infrastructure resilience, workforce training, AI innovation, and AI acquisitions policy.
“The DoD Office of Industrial Base Resilience recognizes that the integration of AI into defense systems is pivotal to national security. The DIB is responsible for developing, manufacturing, and maintaining the systems that the U.S. military uses to defend the nation,” the notice says.
“DoD collaborates with the DIB to rapidly adopt AI for defense applications and maintain the nation’s tactical advantage,” it adds.
