The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Defense (DoD) is searching for cloud capabilities that will support its mission, according to a request for information (RFI).

According to the DoD OIG, the office’s requirement is for “a cloud services solution that is authorized to process and house information at DoD Information Impact Level 5 (IL5) and authorized to connect to the DoD NIPRnet.”

The IG calls its oversight mission “unique and sensitive,” therefore security and integrity of OIG information and systems are critical. Vendors responding to the RFI must articulate how their solution would provide a secure and independent operating environment to safeguard OIG information and isolate OIG from other cloud tenants.

“The OIG is anticipating to operate in a hybrid environment with a phased move of key applications to the Cloud over time,” the RFI says. “The OIG is asking for information about benefits of moving to the cloud and what capabilities this would provide our organization (e.g. agility, scalability, security, and cost savings).”

The RFI adds that the OIG “would like to understand the potential cost savings and benefits other agencies have realized based on similar DoD or Federal organizations that have moved to cloud services.”

Responses to the RFI must be submitted by July 19, and questions regarding the announcement should be submitted in writing by July 12.
