The Department of Defense’s (DoD) Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) component have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on cybersecurity measures, according to a Dec. 17 announcement.

With both agencies already utilizing solutions from both inside and outside government, teaming up will allow them to learn from each other in addition to industry, the agencies said. That effort is already underway through the MOU that was signed in November but not make public until this week.

“The nation’s ability to access commercial innovations quickly and efficiently is critical in keeping abreast of the best industry has to offer,” said Sabra Horne of CISA’s Innovation Hub. “We are already sharing information and practice on commercial solutions that can address needs for the nation’s security.”

“Additionally, CISA is eager to see the procurement processes DIU has successfully developed in action and how it uses alternative procurement authorities and methods to quickly obtain commercial solutions to mission problems,” she said.

DIU is focused on “accelerating commercial technology for national security,” the announcement said. One of the main goals of the partnership is helping create efficiencies across the agencies to help both better accomplish their missions.
