The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) will be shifting from the Host Based Security System (HBSS) to Endpoint Security Solutions (ESS) to provide an evolved, holistic approach to cybersecurity.

DISA said the transition will occur over the “next few years” and will include product life-cycle updates and the addition of endpoint protection components, such as application whitelisting, visibility, and containment tools.

“The DOD ESS is an integrated set of capabilities that work together to detect, deter, protect, and report on cyber threats across all DOD networks,” DISA said.

Additionally, the enhancement will leverage the added security of the Windows 10 Secure Host Baseline (SHB), with additional capabilities added through the acquisition process based on new requirements.

Endpoint security is a DoD-wide effort that leverages the collaborative capabilities of DISA, NSA, the DOD CYBER Range, Red Team support, and continuous market research through DOD components, the agency added.
