Federal agencies consider cloud computing, mobility, and big data to be the most important technologies to their organizations, according to Dell EMC’s survey released Wednesday.

Dell EMC said that agencies need to invest in modern IT systems built on software-based environments and hyperconverged infrastructures to be ready for the future.

The survey said 97 percent of agencies are preparing by having a strategic IT plan in place. Federal IT leaders hope that these plans will increase productivity by 85 percent and decrease IT costs by 65 percent.

Dell EMC said that agencies need to incorporate scalable, agile, software-based environments into their strategic IT plans to increase efficiency and productivity.

“Federal agencies largely appreciate the value of digital transformation, considering cloud, mobility and big data important to their organizations,” said Steve Harris, vice president and general manager of Dell EMC Federal. “These technologies are positioned to revolutionize how government does business and interacts with its constituents. Digital transformation also demands agencies modernize their IT systems.”

Sixty-eight percent of Federal IT professionals said that cloud services was one of the the biggest spending priorities for 2016 and 64 percent said that data storage was one of the biggest priorities. Over the next year, 52 percent of IT professionals cited cloud as the top initial investment that their agency will make in the next year; 44 percent said that big data will be their agency’s biggest initial investment.

Ninety-three percent of Federal IT leaders said that mobility and converged infrastructure are the attributes of a “future-ready” organization. Dell’s survey of global business leaders, released earlier this month, also found that converged infrastructure was an investment priority for their organizations.

“With IT plans defined by incremental steps toward modernization and flexible software-based solutions, agencies are equipped to support tomorrow’s technology innovation and meet today’s mission goals,” Harris said.
