President-Elect Joe Biden today discussed with House and Senate Democratic leaders the need for urgent congressional action on further economic stimulus legislation to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

The CARES Act stimulus bill approved by Congress earlier this year provided funding for a range of Federal government IT functions, and the House-approved HEROES Act stimulus bill featured a $1 billion funding increase for the Technology Modernization Fund (TMF).

Today’s discussion between Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., included “the urgent need for the Congress to come together in the lame duck session on a bipartisan basis to pass a bill that provides resources to fight the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to a statement from the Biden-Harris Transition Team.

Stimulus legislation, it said, also should include “relief for working families and small businesses, support for state and local governments trying to keep frontline workers on the payroll, expanded unemployment insurance, and affordable health care for millions of families.”
