President Biden plans to nominate David Pekoske to serve a second five-year term as Transportation Security Administration (TSA) administrator, the White House announced.
Pekoske has served as the TSA’s seventh administrator since August 2017. His five-year term was set to expire in August 2022.
Pekoske leads an agency of over 60,000 employees and is responsible for security operations at nearly 440 airports throughout the United States.
While serving as TSA administrator, Pekoske also stepped in to serve as the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) acting secretary and as the senior official performing the duties of deputy secretary.
Previously, Pekoske served as the 26th vice commandant of the Coast Guard. He also served as a commissioner on the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, which developed a consensus on a strategic approach to defending the United States in cyberspace against cyberattacks of significant consequences.
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas thanked President Biden for nominating Pekoske for a second term, calling his commitment to TSA “unsurpassed.”
