The Advanced Research Projects Agency For Health (ARPA-H) has tapped Alastair Thomson as the agency’s new acting director of data innovation, according to his LinkedIn account.

In the new position, Thomson will be tasked with leading the charge in the agency’s development of data infrastructure for AI and machine learning capabilities.

Thomson has been the Senior Advisor for Data Innovation at ARPA-H where he has been  “working to define and build a new generation of data infrastructure in support of ARPA-H’s programs with a focus on innovation including AI/ML, Digital Twins, Cloud Based Analytics,” according to his LinkedIn account.

Thomson also has over 13 years of experience working at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Senior Advisor for Information and Data Technologies as well as a chief information officer (CIO).

Thomson holds a DipGrad degree – an equivalent of master’s – in computer science and psychology from the University of Otago.
