The Army is looking to commercial-off-the-shelf solutions as the service modernizes its inventory management system, according to a request for information released July 4. Responses are due by July 19.

The RFI notes that the Army is modernizing its existing system, and is looking to industry for capabilities that can meet its needs, but remain adaptable and modifiable.

“The desired system shall enable soldiers to inventory, issue, and receive items using automatic identification and data capture technology for managing hand receipts and to upgrade and introduce new asset and inventory management capabilities,” the RFI notes.

The RFI notes that the Army is considering a pilot, and looking to test a commercial solution with one brigade and 50 simultaneous users at first.

Potential solutions will need to integrate with DoD-specific requirements, such as CAC card authentication, integrate with other government systems, and receive authority to operate.
