The Department of Defense continues to push forward with efforts to bolster its IT system. The Army awarded a $5 billion Information Technology Enterprise Solutions 3 Hardware (ITES-3H) contract for IT hardware, software, and other services, to 17 companies.

The Army chose eight large firms and nine small firms to lend IT support, including Government Acquisitions.

“We are honored to be awarded ITES-3H, and are poised to serve the Army by providing the solutions, people and processes to help make the program a success,” said Jay Lambke, President, GAI. “From emerging areas such as data center modernization, hyper-convergence, cybersecurity, and big data analytics to traditional end-user infrastructure we are looking forward to applying state-of-the-market technologies to directly impact mission needs.”

The Army narrowed down a list of 50 bidders to choose the winners. This current contract takes the place of the original ITES-2H contract the military planned to award in 2014. The Army initially performed a two-part competition for that contract, which stalled when companies that failed to make it to the second part of the competition protested the bid.

Those delays caused the Army to extend the ITES-2H contract process four separate times. Ultimately, ITES-3H replaced the original contract.

“The contract allows us to help the Army streamline their IT acquisition,” said Mohammed Butt, UNICOM Government Business Capture & Federal Sales vice president. “We will help the Army continue to support their mission, maintain security, and reduce infrastructure operations budgets.”

The 17 prime contractors will now battle for task orders to provide laptops, workstations, and other IT products to the Army. The contract will expire on Feb. 21, 2017.
