The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is looking for support for its Chief Data Officer as the department looks to improve its data practices and standards.

In a request for information released July 22, VA shared that it is looking for support on data discovery, developing data models, and supporting data governance efforts to overcome some of the department’s challenges.

“In this complex multi-system and multi-data repository environment, where data governance is federated throughout the organization, maintaining a business, data and system’s architecture becomes difficult,” the RFI notes.

VA is looking for a contractor to model current business processes, develop data models for different subject areas, build a shared dictionary of data terms across the department, and undertake data quality efforts for authoritative data sources.

“This [RFI] is focused on the effort to secure data architecture support to facilitate uniformity and awareness of VA data assets in support of the business processes and systems exchanges to address the data challenges of the department,” the department states.

The potential contract will be competed on the Transformation Twenty-One Total Technology Next Generation (T4NG) contract, and will last for at least one year, with four option years included. Responses are due by July 25.
