George Forbes will serve as the chief information officer for the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, according to an announcement by Forbes on LinkedIn.

“Thrilled to share that I’ve started a new chapter as the Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security,” he wrote.

Most recently, Forbes served as deputy chief of staff for the Data and IT Operations Division of the U.S. Air Force, where he oversaw critical IT and data initiatives. His career in the Air Force began in October 2020 when he joined as a technical director.

Prior to his military service, Forbes held multiple leadership positions at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), most recently as the senior advisor to the Chief Data Officer. His tenure at HUD began in August 2014, where he first joined as a General Engineer.
